prompt table and fic meme and stuff.

I have some time before the next onslaught of exams and I found this lovely thing, so :D Although fair warning, I am terrible at filling prompts, but I hope to write at least a short drabble-ish thing for anyone who bothers to ask, although I'm perfectly capable of just looking at the prompts starry-eyed and wishing someone else would write it, so I could read it.

As for the table, omg, it's too tough and there is NO WAY I'm filling all of it, I'm not that advanced. I shall try and fit the prompts within a category though. Therefore ignore the table if you wish, it's here for the pretty and for everyone to go 'omg, isn't THAT interesting'. Prompt in general as much as you want; I would prefer them to be separate comments for ease of filling them, but that's neither here nor there. I shall try to fill at least one per person!

There are many things Jeff Winger is. If he is not yet a synonym for debonair, polished and charming in the dictionary, then that just goes to show that the dictionary isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

But there is one thing he isn’t.

Jealous.

x

“There are many things Jeff Winger is. In denial being the primary.”

“Abed,” he says, pushing the video-cam away, because seriously, is he supposed to be facilitating this sort of a behavior as a responsible adult who is older and more responsible than that guy she’s making doe-eyes at? But, in the cool, older sort of way, not the ‘fuck-he’s-almost-middle-aged-now’ sort of way. Like the gorgeous, mysterious uncle. Which probably makes for some incestuous connection, but he’s willing to take the incest metaphor over the old-age metaphor any day.

“No talking, Jeff,” Abed waves him off with a hand that Scorsese probably never managed half so well, “this is a silent movie. The jealousy should be conveyed through non-verbal expressions. Studies have shown that greater emotional response from the audience is engendered through that particular mode.”

“You should indulge him,” Annie says, slipping quietly by his side, because she has a tendency to do that. And then she returns to what’s-his-face, but that’s neither here nor there, “don’t be too harsh on him.”

So he indulges him, because he’s that whipped guy from the movies who’s lived long enough to remember TV shows when they weren’t reruns, but still falls for a Disney face.

When he’s not Annie’s object of affection, he’s older. His mirror thinks so, his body thinks so, his hairline thinks so.

Because when she looks at him, and smiles and then looks down, he’s kind of eighteen. That guy who owned the school and was going to be a brilliant lawyer on top of being devastatingly handsome and impossibly suave.

With Annie, it’s like who he could have been never left the building to make way for who he is.

turning saints into the sea | jeff/annie | 2/2
“I think you’re making a massive mistake,” he shrugs, holding the tray with a slight tilt so that anything falling off would be an act of God and the Cafeteria Gorgon couldn’t possibly blame him for it.

And she is. Making a massive mistake. And friends don’t let friends make massive dating mistakes. He learned that from the back of a self-help book that he probably also wrote because in any scenario involving self-help, he’d be the one dispensing advice, not taking it.

“We’ve been over this,” she says fiercely, whispering. As if their conversation is of any importance to anyone except that stupid guy in the mirror, with the much-too-high hairline, whose hairline is only much-too-high when she’s not around. He didn’t just think that, “you said I should move on and I did. Get over it.”

See, the thing is, when he said ‘move on’, he didn’t mean that in the move on, move on sort of way. He meant ‘don’t talk about it, just continue with all the gestures and looks and touching apart from the talking about it bit’ sort of way. Because that is how all his relationships worked. By not talking about it.

“and how’s that worked out for you?” she says under her breath and walks back to McStealsTheGirl, because walking away from him is a move she’s apparently perfected.

x

“This genre is overrated,” Abed tells him, looking over the clips. Jeff Winger’s life in a single gigabyte, ladies and gentlemen, “you can’t be modern and tragic all at once. In these dystopic days, someone needs a happy ending. If it isn’t naturally arising through the plot, you should force the ending. Artistic integrity can occasionally be sacrificed for mass appeal.”

x

“Flowers?” she says, half-incredulous, leaning against the door of her apartment, as if it would collapse on her if she didn’t hold tightly enough, ‘you’re going to buy me off with flowers.”

“Yes?” he tries. Because he’s not the kind of guy who get flowers. Except he is apparently.

She’s still leaning against the door and he has a sudden urge to ask if her new boyfriend had done anything other than existing. If he’d managed to fix the leaky faucet or plug the hole in the bedroom wall. Or sat up with her all night because she was too drunk to be left alonw

“I’m not leaving Syphilis,” she warns. Okay, so maybe that isn’t exactly what she says, and that’s probably not the guy’s name, but hey, artistic license. He knows about these things, he’s a lawyer. Licenses are his thing.

“I know,” he says, because he does.

The Other Guy may have turned up and swept up the Annie of the short skirts and shy smile, but he still has the Annie of the Apartment From The Ninth Circle of Hell and Fuzzy-Pink-Sweater Annie. The Annie who is all the discarded parts of the Annie whom she pretends not to be when she’s with someone, because she went through high school not being accepted.

But she lets him come in anyway, in the apartment where the faucet still leaks and the manager can still peep through the wall on occasion. And he’s pretty sure Abed can leave the film open ended, because maybe not right now, but there’s definitely going to be a sequel someday.

Of course he would rather be associated with incest than with old age, of course :D

So he indulges him, because he’s that whipped guy from the movies who’s lived long enough to remember TV shows when they weren’t reruns, but still falls for a Disney face.

I love how aware he is of how easily he falls for her eyes and smiles and her in general, and he STILL can't help it.

And boys will be boys and Jeff Winger is nothing if not a boy, and since boys don't talk all he's left with is desperately hoping she'll pick up on whatever he wants her to do that week, instead of doing whatever he pretends to want her to do that week. Never become mature Jeff, you're too fun this way xD Aaand predictably, I enjoyed your Jeff and Annie, because you write them so beautifully and in character and everything, how could I not love reading them :)

Re: turning saints into the sea | jeff/annie | 2/2
AND YOU WRITE THE BEST COMMENTS. Just saying, because it should be said.

Their faaaaaaces in that gif, omg. They're always so happy with each other in this shy, high!school sort of way and I adore them, which is different because usually I'm all for the angst, but here I just want scenes like:

Jeff's self-obsession is the best thing ever, along with his constant insecurity about his forehead, heh.

I think I adore how Jeff really has no idea what he wants, while Annie wants him completely. But it's obvious to see that this is only because Jeff knows that Annie's feelings are very much in the teen!crush category and they can just disappear, while if he falls, he'd fall hard, because he's fall at some 36, having seen the world and knowing that this is it. Annie's 'this is it', on the other hand, is a little 'hot older guy' right now, which is my favorite thing about them. So they're inadvertently angsty along with adorable. <3

Re: turning saints into the sea | jeff/annie | 2/2
Then I shall stick to writing comments, shouldn't let the talent go wasted :D

YES ANNIE IS SUCH A TEENAGE GIRL and handles her crush with the serious attitude, like every teenage girl who falls in love with the guy and is positive she'll love him forever and that he is the best thing for her.

Accidental angst is fun :D Especially paired with their almost unmatched adorableness.

Also, I keep looking at that gif and I simply cannot get over all the prettiness. I MEAN LOOK AT THEM. THE EYES AND THE FACES AND THE LONGING GAZES I MEAN I CANNOT STOP LOOKING.

This is presh. Your Jeff/Annie is too perfect.

Which probably makes for some incestuous connection, but he’s willing to take the incest metaphor over the old-age metaphor any day.

AMAZING.

Hee, I cannot seem to move away from hearts&rainbows for these two. Even their angst is less angsty and more 'oh kids'.

Yay! I knew you'd rock at this! :D

I luuuurve Jealous Jeff because his denial is so obvious. And Abed is... xD

Funny and cute. Loved it!!!

Re: turning saints into the sea | jeff/annie | 2/2
Hahaha, I'm glad you thought so :D

JEALOUS!JEFF IS MY FAVORITE. He is so obvious, like with Rich. And Abed just needs to be around overstating all TV tropes ever basically.

Thank you <3

This is perfect. I absolutely love how you write Jeff. Of course he kind of takes love advice from Abed, and of course he absolutely refuses to even use the Other Guy's name. And the mention of the Disney face!

Re: turning saints into the sea | jeff/annie | 2/2
Thank you! I actually love writing Jeff and Annie POVS because there's so much crazy there. And obviously everyone in the group has an opinion on it, because they're them, and Abed more so than others because he knows every May-December tb trope there is. :D Jealous!Jeff is a personal favorite, heh.
