prompt table and fic meme and stuff.

I have some time before the next onslaught of exams and I found this lovely thing, so :D Although fair warning, I am terrible at filling prompts, but I hope to write at least a short drabble-ish thing for anyone who bothers to ask, although I'm perfectly capable of just looking at the prompts starry-eyed and wishing someone else would write it, so I could read it.

As for the table, omg, it's too tough and there is NO WAY I'm filling all of it, I'm not that advanced. I shall try and fit the prompts within a category though. Therefore ignore the table if you wish, it's here for the pretty and for everyone to go 'omg, isn't THAT interesting'. Prompt in general as much as you want; I would prefer them to be separate comments for ease of filling them, but that's neither here nor there. I shall try to fill at least one per person!

you said the schrodinger equation collapsed perfectly | cranmers/chemistry | 1/1
Cranmers sat at her desk with a sigh. It was a nice desk. It was the sort of desk that invited poetry and should have paeans written about the molecules combining together to form perfection. She wondered what the particular valency and subsequent excitation of electrons into higher spheres of light was, that gave it its luxurious brown color.

“Cranmers,” her mother called from downstairs, “are you studying, darling?”

Well, she’d been thinking about the molecules forming the body of the table, which would’ve eventually led to thinking about the atoms that made up the molecules of the table. And the theory of atomic particles being the smallest division of any object, as horrendously wrong as it was, was formulated by Dalton. And he was a chemist. Which means someone trained in the study of chemistry. She was totally studying chemistry right there, “yeah.”

“I’m going out,” her mother said, “There’s food in the fridge if you need. I’ll be back in a while.”

Everybody knows ‘I’ll be back in a while’ is really parental code for ‘do what the fuck you want till I get back’. It’s like in the Unofficial Guide to Being a Teenager that comes implanted in your brain from the moment you’re born, but tends to activate only at the age of thirteen, and then self-combusts when you’re a staid, middle-aged twenty.

But no, Cranmers wasn’t that sort of a girl. She was going to study.

stud•y/ˈstədē/noun: The devotion of time and attention to acquiring knowledge on an academic subject, esp. by means of a book.

So she turned to Facebook, because, hello, twenty-first century. That is obviously the y2k’d version of the old definition. And anyway, there had been a whole host of academic work related to social networking. She’s not making excuses; she’s being innovative, which is totally the first thing every employer looks for.

An hour later, she really, truly, definitely, resolutely looked up ‘chemistry’ on Google and studiously avoided all sorts of search results about ‘Ships With The Best Chemistry’, because, hey, she’s a good student and prioritizes. And if she spent the next hour bookmarking the pages for further reference, then that is nobody’s business, and is strictly confidential between her computer and her.

Hm, International Symposium on Frontiers in Inorganic Chemistry; that might be helpful for behavior and properties of inorganic compounds. The International Symposium on FIC may not exactly be a part of the course but—

FIC.

Fic.

See, the thing is, she totally believes in that one line from Guys and Dolls, “mine will always surprise me, because mine I leave to chance and chemistry.”

But when fate itself had spoken, what chance had chemistry?

That is the story of how she ended up on Livejournal, searching for fanfiction. However, because she’s a good student, she only read that which also dealt with her academic interests; the one about Damon and Elena’s test tube baby. Damon’s inability to conceive because of his Vampirical Problem finally led to him and Elena seeking help from the miracles of modern science which blessed them with Rose, named after their biggest shipper. Stefan eats her later in one of his moods, and there is a rather intriguing subplot about how it may not have been just a sudden urge, but a pre-mediated elimination and a planned form of revolt against the Shipping Subtext. But, either way, that is irrelevant to the academic appeal of the fic, as it can be well argued that the original scientific base still stands regardless of the consumption of the Test Tube Baby and Stefan’s motives.

Now, that’s chemistry.

(She aces the test four days later. No one on her friends list so much has the decency to even pretend to be surprised.)

Hahahaha, thank you :D My thought process was literally 'BUT YOU WOULD STILL NEED LIVE SPERM FOR A TEST TUBE BABY'. But it's fanfiction, so I'm sure the author exercised their artistic license. /nods
