i don't think we're in kansas anymore
who's a bandwagon-jumper? me! me!

I am kind of confused by what this is, but it involves writing fic, as far as I can tell? After making the shiny masterlist, I am mostly cringing at half the stuff on the aforementioned shiny masterlist, but I am a masochist, why do think I love Logan. okay, so.

Fic War

What: Tumblr Fic War

Who: Anyone who reblogs this reposts this.

When: Until everyone is actualfax dead, because this is WAR suckers!

What: Everyone who reblogs reposts is opening their ask box comments up to the most brutal, feelings-inducing prompts anyone who is playing can imagine. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take those prompts and DESTROY EVERYONE with them. Not just angsty stuff either, fluff can be just as bad, as many of you know!

And, it's just— Logan had always been an intense high-school romance, sure. But somewhere along the way, in some secret corner of her mind, she had convinced herself that was all he was; a high-school romance. Explosive, powerful, passionate, and burning itself out eventually.

The headline is bolded, italicized and he glances over once and—

They've married us this time. A teasing lilt. The words scratch on his nerves endings. His mouth is so full of cotton and she's golden. She's always golden.

The script on the table, her hair a waterfall, covering her from his gaze.

He pushes the paper in front of her eyes, golden hair draped across the black ink. He could dream of her if she let him.

Apparently we're engaged now.

She looks over, and then up, up at him—

His heart sinks before she says a word.

Joseph...King. I’m engaged to Joseph King. It was kind of— I mean, we were— it’s been very—

Avoiding his eyes. He doesn’t mind. He can keep looking at her and she will not know. This way.

She stops and for a moment he expects her to apologize. That is Candice.

I didn’t ask you to fall in love with me, but sorry I broke your heart somehow.

She doesn't say it, but maybe it still counts if he hears it anyway.

The thing about being an actor is the knowing how to act part.

He’s looks over too often, and everyone gives him knowing glances, and she looks away.

He’s not very good at it, apparently.

You don’t like me much.

A statement, not a question.

She’s startled, a glance, a glance away. Joseph—

It’s okay.

It’s not that.

Determinedly twisting her napkin in her hand. After a while, every party is the same.

He smiles a lot and he accentuates his tone more than necessary when the mike is shoved into his face. Consonants harder.

It’s the foreignness which appeals in the middle of Ian and Paul, he is not a fool.

Not what?

A tilt of his glass to the ring on her finger.

It’s not that I don’t like you. I like you—

Please. Stop there. There are things he can’t think.

It’s just the Klaus/Caroline thing. I don’t think it’s healthy and it romanticizes abuse, and that’s— there are young girls watching the show and—

She cares too much, she always has. That is one of the reasons why he—

I’m not Klaus. An interruption.

A pause. Loaded and a finger on the trigger.

I think I’m Caroline.

(All you need to make a movie is a girl and a gun).

I like you.

He uses the wrong L-word, she’s golden in relief.

I like you too, Joe.

A half-name. A quick smile. And distance.

The glass at the bottom of the liquid sparkles like her ring in the right light.

He drinks too fast. He drinks too much. His consonants get softer.

If he was a good actor, he would channel it into his performance. A realistic frame-shot of unrequited.

A kiss on the cheek. I intend to be your last.

Klaus lets go.

Joseph, Joseph doesn’t.

He says:

Maybe you’ll be sorry when I’m gone.

Pack up, a season too late, a teasing lilt again.

Maybe I will

A teasing lilt back. She is better an actress than he is an actor.</span>

Another mike, another party, another day at the office.

I’m sure when the headlines hit, half the fans wished the Joseph was of the Morgan variety.

A stage whisper, a cue to laughter, the bright green carpet and its trappings.

He glances over once, a flash of blue and golden and—

—laughs. Says something like:

I’m pretty sure I did too.

The right answer. Being nice to a co-star. Self-deprecating. The rules of the game.

I wish her all the happiness in the world. Candice is a beautiful, stunning woman, and she deserves it.

He knows the rules, even if he doesn’t know the game.

She spills her drink on him, accidentally. He runs into her accidentally.

God, I’m so, so sorry, Joseph.

Honesty, sometimes. Only sometimes. So this is:

I’m sorry too.

She does not ask why. Maybe she’s scared to. He’s scared too.

This time, she holds out a hand.

Let me get napkins. This is all my fault.

Not all of it. But the sometimes is over. Honesty doesn’t spill out anymore.

He takes her offered hand.

Come on, then, m’lady. She laughs.

The ring cuts into his finger. He holds on tighter.

OMG, I love it. I especially love that Candice is Caroline, but Joseph isn't Klaus. But maybe sekritly, he is, a little bit. Ugh.

The form of this is superb, too. I really, really love the stream of consciousness feel to it. Most definitely worth the wait. Thank you so much!
