It's my journal, I'll make icons if I want to. [TVD Premiere Squee Post!]

Okay, first things first— I LOVED THE PREMIERE

Weird thing is that I actually felt it was rather incomplete while watching; like half an episode instead of a full one. So fine, I know it probably doesn’t compare to The Return and I actually loved it more on reflection than I did during the actual watching, but still.

I think they managed the jump pretty well, or at least rather conveniently, since all the pesky questions of what happened immediately after As I Lay Dying could easily be put on the backburner. And I loved the…I dunno, feel of the episode— for some reason it seemed closer to season one dynamics than season two doom, gloom and death. Also, this episode felt much more like an ensemble than any previous episode has, with almost each storyline getting equal time.

wherein I demonstrate my inability to be concise or coherent- characters and ships.Collapse )

I don’t usually do episode reviews or anything, but it’s the premiere and I’ll rant if I want to. Heh.

Now, have sixty-freaking-five animated icons because I have no will-power obviously.

Damon's face always slays me, but the part I love? His little guilty look right after he flashes her when she accuses him of knowing she was in the house. ♥

So many great icons. Choosing is always SO HARD.

All I’m thinking right now is that there’s no Stefan to help her and be there for her this time

Tyler will be there.

Great icons! Will probably be snagging loads! :)

And they're also planning a Romeo/Juliet-esque storyline with these two, so yeah, definitely Tyler this time!

Thanks so much :)

First and foremost, GORGEOUS ICONS!! I so envy your talent *sighs*

I really liked the premiere episode as well =) granted, I'm one of those people who are still comparing it to "The Return" and feeling it came up short, BUT nonetheless, I think it was an awesome episode in its own right and I think it set up for a potentially awesome season *-)

ITA that the dynamic felt so much more like season 1 and it had a greater ensemble feel than most of the season 2 episodes (and possibly ANY of the mid-late season 2 episodes) did. This episode was actually the first time in a long time that I really got the impression that so many of these people have spent their entire lives together (Elena, Tyler, Matt, Caroline, Bonnie was missing though *is sad*). I think this may have actually been the first time I've seen Elena and Tyler interact with one another so casually (and at length). It's definately something I hope they're planning on keeping up for the remainder of the season...

& you're totally not the only Damon/Elena shipper who was touched by that Stefan/Elena phone scene because I was too hehe =p I love her choice of words, no questions no "come back to me" she just let him know that she was there for him, that she loved him and hadn't given up on him and that if he needs something to hold on to let that be it and just GUH <333

What I absolutely loved was that after a long time Damon actually fit my initial conception of the character. He carried out his epic bromance with Alaric. He searched covertly for his brother and made Elena feel stupid for helping. He was snarky instead of love-struck. He hid his emotions behind words. And sometimes, he just failed to hide them at all (that was lovely). He didn’t feel the need to tell he was still madly in love with Elena, he showed.

YES YES YES TO EVERY WORD OF THIS (Y) upon refelcion, I found that I wasn't as big a fan of many of the "louder" declerations/shippy moments from last season as I thought I was, and so basically all things Damon and Damon/Elena from this episode are EXACTLY what I needed to open this season with <333

IT'S NOT TALENT, BELIEVE ME, more like 'so what new way can I devise of wasting my time today'.

It definitely came up short compared to The Return. That episode is one of my absolute favorites and although I started TVD during the mid-second-season hiatus (so I saw all previous episodes in continuation), I can imagine how amazing it was after a long wait. But I think this premiere IS the setting for something potentially epic (if they don't change character dynamics, that is, please, please).

BONNIE IS ALWAYS MISSING. I think Kat must have other stuff on her plate, because otherwise this obvious Bonnie-absences make NO SENSE whatsoever. I adored the Caroline/Elena friendship this episode because you so rarely get to see it, and here they were all teenagery and comfortable with each other and I was all <3____<3 And you're right, Elena and Tyler have practically never interacted before (but then because of that he's been one of the only guys to not have been in love with her, heh.

I love her choice of words, no questions no "come back to me" she just let him know that she was there for him, that she loved him and hadn't given up on him and that if he needs something to hold on to let that be it and just GUH <333

I THINK THIS ALL-INCLUSIVE SHIPPINESS IS MY FLIST'S THING AND NO ONE CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. WHY SO AWESOME, YOU GUYS? And I adored that she made no demands on him and just reassured him and it was just such a lovely scene really, because he needs it so badly. He can't let Damon get even a hint that he's redeemable and he has no one left to go to and nothing he can do, so he so deserved that moment.

I found that I wasn't as big a fan of many of the "louder" declerations/shippy moments from last season as I thought I was

/SOULMATE. I really, really was never a fan of them, in fact it went against what had made me ship them in the first place-- their utter subtlety and scenes like the end of Miss Mystic Falls (FAVORITE FOREVER), "I'm trusting you" instead of "I will always choose you". And this episode just reminded me of how quiet this ship used to be.

No, I absolutely adored, adored, adored the Stefan/Elena phone call. It ripped my heart into little shreds.
This episode, without a doubt, hands down, belonged completely to Paul, with a little bit of Candice and Zach on the side.

Paul just blew me away.
After an entire summer off (because, I'M A BAD PERSON, but I was getting irritated with certain actors and their certain nonstop crusades)...I caught up with some of Paul's other performances...and wow. It was clear he was meant to play a dimensional character.

NOT trying to say anything to Ian, because he just destroys scenes when he's at his best...but Paul just has this way of conveying all these emotions in the tiniest of gestures...no eye antics involved.

And he's the most gorgeous crier of all times.

Moving on...

I LOVE CAROLINE. I LOVE CAROLINE FOREVER AND SHE IS GORGEOUS AND FUN AND NEEDS TO ORCHESTRATE A PARTY AT MY HOUSE. Or just be my friend.
She was perfect this episode. She was a lovely mix of season 1 and season 2 Caroline for me, and oh. I just adored every second of every scene.

And here's the odd thing...my second MVP award goes to Zach Roerig. I FLIPPING LOVED MATT THIS EPISODE. Yes, he was rude to Caroline. Yes, he said some dickish things but omg. Matt was so teenage boy, and so human. And it's so hard to forget that in this hodgepodge of supernaturals, there are still humans around. Forgotten, little lonely humans who hey...sometimes want to smoke weed and feel bitter about their ex girlfriend and best friend. And he played it so adorably. And I don't know, I loved it.

And Jeremy...was looking mighty fine, on a purely shallow note.
Baby boy has been working out over break apparently.

I'm okay with this.

THAT BEING SAID. HI BB! I HAVE MISSED YOU TERRIBLY! HOPE YOUR SUMMER HAS BEEN GREAT!
<3

OMG, HELLO, YOU JUST DISAPPEARED. BUT DON'T APOLOGIZE, BB. It just signifies you try and keep up with real life unlike me, I'm mostly just winging it :s

Hahaha, ooh, so you jumped ships and actors in your self-imposed hiatus, IT'S ALL COOL, BRO, I'M ALL READY FOR BOTH LOVING AND HATING, I enjoy both equally. I am obviously not a very nice person D:

I did an entire post on the eye!thing because I genuinely don't like it, aesthetically speaking. It's also ruined a couple of scenes for me. Although I do think that both Paul and Ian are gorgeous criers, Damon after staking Rose was beautiful, and Paul in this episode, GUH.

CAROLINE CONTINUES TO BE MY FAVORITE, SHE'S SO, SO ADORABLE AND I WOULD WANT TO BE HER BFF FOREVER. She just lights up scenes, and people. Even Elena seemed most alive when she was around <333

I THINK YOUR MATT THOUGHTS ARE VERY INTERESTING. I also believe you're so right, it's really hard to remember that he's been through a lot and that's he's totally out of the Supernatural Club, and he is so teenager-like, unlike almost everyone on this show (except maybe Tyler and Caroline!) But I'm never very sympathetic to him because he's always been a dick, even before anything happened, before he became divorced from this world. Especially to Caroline who he's been saying stuff like "I felt like throttling you" to since the beginning of forever D:

Haha, DO WANT Jeremy's new hair (he and Matt have the same hair to signify their is-going-to-be bffness, approval).

I MISSED YOU SO MUCH <33333 MAKE SOME BITCHY POSTS PLEASE, SO I CAN VENT?
love kickstarts again: VD: Human!Damonmiss_blanche on September 19th, 2011 05:36 am (UTC)
PRETTY MUCH YES EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING IS THE HOLY WORD. The only thing I differ on slightly is our opinion of Stefan - I am so unsold on his ripper storyline at the moment and I really can't figure out if it's the writing or the acting or a combination but I really, really hope it changes :/

Damon/Elena. I can’t. I just…I can’t even begin to explain how perfect I thought they were. I know it was probably disappointing for many because of the buildup of expectations and the promo suggestion of a romantic/sexual vibe. But their scenes in this worked for me like nothing else would have. It reminded me why I’d started shipping them in the first place.

PERFECT STATEMENT IS PERFECT. ♥
youcallitwinter: of the things I've learnt about a boy.youcallitwinter on September 19th, 2011 01:15 pm (UTC)
YOU ARE MY HOLY WORD.

Er, no, I don't know what that was...I'm excitable? But I do get the Stefan thing because I suppose I loved the menace but there were also hints that he was still the same person and was struggling with being a ripper. I actually want him to enjoy it, ngl. (Man, what sort of a sadist am I, anyway?) But I'd like it if he actually flipped out and the show went REALLY crazy with him, that would be fun.

THE D/E WAS PERFECT. WELCOME BACK, SEASON ONE DYNAMIC, I HOPE YOU'RE PLANNING TO MAKE A LONG STOP HERE.

Aww, that is so sweet of you to say :D And I'm glad you found some icons to use!

I find it fascinating how many different opinions it is possible to get of the same scene in the TVD fandom, there can be full agreement or a violent disagreement, and obviously the show's doing something right to be able to incite such strong reactions! But still, it's funner to be in love with everyone because you're rarely disappointed then, heh.

Thanks!

Haha, that's really nice of you to say! :D I'm glad there are so many people in this fandom who tend to think alike, how very awesome is that!
