Me: omg, it's so exciting, I wonder what Elena will look like with her game face on!
Friend: ...like Katherine with her game face on?
+ I don't know why I do these things; but since everyone was talking about it, I tried reading 50 Shades of Grey, and
WHAT IS THIS BOOK, YOU GUYS?
Full disclosure: I just skimmed through it and barely read 50 pages of the whole thing so maybe I don't actually have a right to comment on it. And the thing is, I don't actually mind the book so much, because I've read much worse and so fine it's glorified fic (literally), but hey, if it works for people, then y'know, good. But, to call this feminist literature? Are you serious? It's empowering women and making them sexually aware and highlighting their desires? Your misogyny makes my head ache, world.
And the thing is, with the movie in the making (which Ian apparently wants to do? He so would lol), I can imagine all the more emphasis on how this is revolutionary and the end of an era and just, no.
And it also strikes me, with how much attention it's getting that the Real World literally has no idea how much innovation there is in fic. Since there are no rules and nothing to lose monetarily or a public to appease, all the boundaries of style and narrative and structure, character and storytelling get pushed. It's actually a rich-subculture that's adding so much to the art of writing in general. Nowhere have I ever seen entire pieces in the second-person narrative other than fic (I mean, there are examples in other places like Hawthorne and Faulkner, but consistently maintaining that, not really). Also, just frame narratives and epistolary formats (I'm guessing before Meg Cabot came up with her Guy Next Door, etc series) and a wide variety of techniques. It's just stunning how fanfic manages to do. I mean there are practically no sexual, social, political, religious, literary taboos at all. If it is an issue, there's probably fic of it. (Rule #375 of the Internet).
+ Also, I need to stop watching Avengers cast videos. Oh my god. I had an exam yesterday and the rest of the day I spent making icons and watching the Avengers cast and they are so ridic adorkable, it makes me want to keep them in my pocket forever. I am legit surprised by how much I want to marry Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth (both together, because their bromance is the best thing ever, and I'm sure one won't be willing to come without the other) even though Thor and Captain America were the ones who I was all 'okay, so they're there' about. D: BUT NOW I LOVE THEM, BECAUSE I'M FICKLE AND SHALLOW LIKE THAT. But just look at these two:
Also, this is what I did yesterday /sigh. *goes back to study...no, really*
